Random information on the term “PAL”:

PALplus (or PAL+) is an analogue television broadcasting system aimed to improve and enhance the PAL format while remaining compatible with existing television receivers. It followed experiences with the HD-MAC and D2-MAC, hybrid analogue-digital formats that were incompatible with PAL receivers. It was developed in Germany University of Dortmund in cooperation with German terrestrial broadcasters and European and Japanese manufacturers.

In the 1980s a new high definition broadcasting standard, HD-MAC, was created, offering twice the number of available scanning lines compared to PAL. As a transitional standard, D2-MAC was established. It had same number of lines as PAL, but like HD-MAC it was designed for widescreen content. The MAC family of standards was adopted in Europe in 1983 primarily for Direct Broadcasting by Satellite (DBS) services.

European terrestrial broadcasters felt the need to better position themselves in order to compete with satellite and cable operators. PALplus was the name of a strategy group founded in 1989 to develop an enhanced system for terrestrial transmission compatible with PAL. While not attempting to produce HDTV standards of quality, the new format was meant to improve PAL in the following areas:

Random information on the term “NAME”:

The domain name is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the Domain Name System of the Internet. It is intended for use by individuals for representation of their personal name, nicknames, screen names, pseudonyms, or other types of identification labels.

The top-level domain was founded by Hakon Haugnes and Geir Rasmussen and initially delegated to Global Name Registry in 2001, and become fully operational in January 2002. Verisign was the outsourced operator for .name since the .name launch in 2002 and acquired Global Name Registry in 2008.

Subdomains of name may be registered at the second-level (john.name) and the third-level (john.doe.name). It is also possible to register an e-mail address of the form [email protected]. Such a registration may require another address as destination. The second-level domain of third-level subdomains is shared, and may not be registered by individuals.

When the TLD name was first launched, only third-level registrations and forwarded e-mail addresses were available. Second-level registrations became available in January 2004. The original intended structure of domain names was first.last.name, so that individuals could get a domain corresponding to their name.

Random information on the term “MAC”:

The Mac Eden is a Czech single-place paraglider that was designed by Peter Recek and is produced by Mac Para Technology of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. It remains in production in 2016 as the Eden 6.

The Eden was designed as an intermediate cross country glider.

The design has progressed through six generations of models, the Eden, Eden 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, each improving on the last. The models are each named for their approximate wing area in square metres.

The manufacturer claims a glide ratio of over 10:1 for the Eden 6.

Reviewer Ziad Bassil described the Eden 6 in a review, “the Eden 6 is a new breed of Mac Para gliders. There’s something different in the making. The glide angle is the best you can get. The climb rate is very good! The handling is pleasurable. The Eden 6 is fast! For sure, it’s a small step over the Eden 5 in piloting but ok for an experienced B pilot looking inside the high B category!”.

Jürgen Karthe reviewing the Eden 6 concluded, “The Eden 6 is a great wing, giving enormous pleasure. Its the “Bird of Paradise” in 6th generation. A switch from Eden 5 to 6 should differ only in the higher performance of the new sail. The new Mac Para Eden 6 has an overall balanced and manageable basic characteristic and provides a great, safe feeling in the flight (fly in peace). Even in turbulent conditions, the wing retains largely stoic and does not detract from the good feeling of flight. The glide of the Eden 6 is at the top of the current B segment. The manufacturer claims a glide ratio of 10+. This seems to be no dreamy optimism, but is according to our experience, corresponding to the reality.”

Random information on the term “MATE”:

Mate (Spanish: [ˈmate], Portuguese: [ˈmatʃi]; sometimes hypercorrected as maté in English, but never in Spanish or Portuguese, where it is often called “jerba”), also known as yerba mate, chimarrão (Portuguese: [ʃimɐˈʁɐ̃w̃]) or cimarrón (Spanish: [simaˈron]), is a traditional South American caffeine-rich infused drink, particularly in Argentina and Uruguay (where it is defined by law as the “national infusion”),, Paraguay, the Bolivian Chaco, Southern Chile and Southern Brazil. It is also consumed in Syria, the largest importer in the world, and in Lebanon.

It is prepared by steeping dried leaves of yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis, known in Portuguese as erva-mate) in hot water and is served with a metal straw from a shared hollow calabash gourd. The straw is called a bombilla in Spanish, a bomba in Portuguese, and a bombija or, more generally, a masassa (straw) in Arabic. The straw is traditionally made of silver. Modern, commercially available straws are typically made of nickel silver, called alpaca; stainless steel, or hollow-stemmed cane. The gourd is known as a mate or a guampa; while in Brazil, it has the specific name of cuia, or also cabaça (the name for Indigenous-influenced calabash gourds in other regions of Brazil, still used for general food and drink in remote regions). Even if the water is supplied from a modern thermos, the infusion is traditionally drunk from mates or cuias.

Amaranthus, collectively known as amaranth, is a cosmopolitan genus of annual or short-lived perennial plants. Some amaranth species are cultivated as leaf vegetables, pseudocereals, and ornamental plants. Most of the Amaranthus species are summer annual weeds and are commonly referred to as pigweed. Catkin-like cymes of densely packed flowers grow in summer or autumn. Approximately 60 species are recognized, with inflorescences and foliage ranging from purple, through red and green to gold. Members of this genus share many characteristics and uses with members of the closely related genus Celosia.

“Amaranth” derives from Greek ἀμάραντος (amárantos), “unfading”, with the Greek word for “flower”, ἄνθος (ánthos), factoring into the word’s development as amaranth. The more accurate amarant is an archaic variant.

Amaranthus shows a wide variety of morphological diversity among and even within certain species. Although the family (Amaranthaceae) is distinctive, the genus has few distinguishing characters among the 70 species included. This complicates taxonomy and Amaranthus has generally been considered among systematists as a “difficult” genus.

Random information on the term “GEMMA”:

A gemma (plural gemmae) is a single cell, or a mass of cells, or a modified bud of tissue, that detaches from the parent and develops into a new individual. This type of asexual reproduction is referred to as fragmentation. It is a means of asexual propagation in plants. These structures are commonly found in fungi, algae, liverworts and mosses, but also in some flowering plants such as pygmy sundews and some species of butterworts. Vascular plants have many other methods of asexual reproduction including Bulbils and Turions.

The production of gemmae is a widespread means of asexual reproduction in both liverworts and mosses. In liverworts such as Marchantia, the flattened plant body or thallus is a haploid gametophyte with gemma cups scattered about its upper surface. The gemma cups are cup-like structures containing gemmae. The gemmae are small discs of haploid tissue, and they directly give rise to new gametophytes. They are dispersed from gemma cups by rainfall.
