APT or Automatically Programmed Tool is a high-level computer programming language most commonly used to generate instructions for numerically controlled machine tools. Douglas T. Ross is considered by many to be the father of APT: as head of the newly created Computer Applications Group of the Servomechanisms Laboratory at MIT in 1956 he led its technical effort. APT is a language and system that makes numerically controlled manufacturing possible. This early language was used widely into the 1970s and is still a standard internationally. Derivatives of APT were later developed.

APT is used to program CNC machine tools to create complex parts using a cutting tool moving in space. It is used to calculate a path that a tool must follow to generate a desired form. APT is a special-purpose language and the predecessor to modern CAM systems. It was created and refined during the late 1950s and early 1960s to simplify the task of calculating geometry points that a tool must traverse in space to cut the complex parts required in the aerospace industry. It was a direct result of the new numerical control technology becoming available at that time and the daunting task that a machinist or engineer faced calculating the movements of the machine for the complex parts for which it was capable. Its development was centered at the same MIT labs that hosted the Numerical Control and the Milling Machine Projects. APT also was Air Force sponsored and is notable for being the world’s first major cooperative programming venture, combining government agencies, universities, and a 14-company team organized within the Aircraft Industries Association [now Aerospace Ind Assoc.]. APT was created before graphical interfaces were available, and so it relies on text to specify the geometry and toolpaths needed to machine a part. The original version was created before even FORTRAN was available and was the very first ANSI standard. Later versions were rewritten in FORTRAN. As a U. S. government funded project APT was placed in the public domain.

Adept is a Swedish metalcore band from Trosa. Formed in 2004, the band consists of vocalist Robert Ljung, guitarist Gustav Lithammer and bassist Filip Brandelius. They have released three EPs and four studio albums to date, including Another Year of Disaster in 2009, Death Dealers (which saw a shift in sound from their original post-hardcore influences) in 2011, Silence the World in 2013, and their latest release Sleepless in 2016. They are currently signed to Napalm Records.[citation needed]

Adept was founded in 2004 and now consists of Robert Ljung (vocals), Gustav Lithammer (guitars) and Filip Brandelius (bass). In their first year, they self-released their first demo, Hopeless Illusions. This was followed a year later by their first EP, When the Sun Gave Up the Sky, also self-released, and again in 2006 by another EP, The Rose Will Decay. The band soon gained prominence and was signed by the Panic & Action label.

On 4 February 2009, Adept released their first full-length album, Another Year of Disaster. In 2010, Adept toured in Germany with the band Her Bright Skies (also signed to Panic & Action), playing six venues: Hamburg, Berlin, Osnabrück, Munich, Stuttgart and Cologne. In August 2010, Adept began working on a follow-up to Another Year of Disaster. They worked with Fredrik Nordström, a music producer who had previously worked with well-known acts such as In Flames, Bring Me the Horizon and At the Gates. On 11 March 2011, they released their second album, Death Dealers, which saw their sound shifting from post-hardcore towards metalcore. They toured Europe for the first time that same year, starting in Sweden and moving on through France, Russia, Finland, Norway, Finland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary and Italy. In May they played some shows in Germany as part of their tour, supporting As Blood Runs Black, Caliban and For Today, and also planned to play some shows in Austria and appeared as an opening act for August Burns Red. Adept released their third and latest album, Silence the World in late 2013, and supported it by once again setting out on a European tour.

Able was laid down on 23 March 1989 at McDermott Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana. Launched on 16 February 1991, she was delivered to the Navy on 22 July 1992, assigned to the Military Sealift Command (MSC), and placed in service as USNS Able (T-AGOS-20). The ship has a SWATH design.

Able was taken out of service in August 2004 and laid up in the Reserve Fleet at NAVSEA Inactive Ships On-site Maintenance Office, in Philadelphia, PA. Able was reactivated in 2008 and was converted in Charleston, South Carolina for SURTASS low frequency active-array (LFA) capabilities. Able is attached to the United States Pacific Fleet and provides support to the United States Seventh Fleet.

The CaMLA English Placement Test (EPT) is used principally by English language teaching schools to assess students’ language ability levels and place them in the right English language course. It is also used by organizations as a screening test to evaluate the English language proficiency of prospective employees.

The CaMLA EPT is developed by CaMLA, a not-for-profit collaboration between the University of Michigan and the University of Cambridge, and has been in use for over four decades. A major revision of the test occurred in 2013 leading to the launch of CaMLA EPT Forms D, E and F. A further three test forms were released in 2015: Forms G, H and I.

The CaMLA EPT can be used with learners of English as a second language at all levels, from beginners to advanced. It tests the following key skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammatical knowledge and vocabulary range. The test can be taken on either a computer or on paper.

There are multiple forms of the test (Forms D, E, F, G, H and I), which are parallel in difficulty. Each form has unique content—no questions are shared across the different forms.
