“Hey Mama” is a song by the American band The Black Eyed Peas. It reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The 2004 single is the third one taken from their 2003 album Elephunk.
“Hey Mama” was released in 2004 as the album’s third single, and was a moderate hit. The song features vocals from British reggae singer Tippa Irie. The single version of the song differs from the album version in that it cuts a verse from the end of the song and replaces it with an entirely new one performed by members Taboo and apl.de.ap (both of whom didn’t perform on the original album version), changes some of the lyrics, and slightly alters the instrumentals.
The song was featured in the original television commercial for the iPod. “Hey Mama” reached #3 in Switzerland, and #4 in Australia, Austria and New Zealand. It reached #6 in the UK becoming their third top ten hit there, and was also a success in Canada and the US, reaching #9 and #23 respectively.
