Random information on the term “EARS”:

The Gate of the Ears (Spanish: Arco de las Orejas), also known as the Arc of the Ears or Bib-Arrambla Gate, was a city gate that served as an entrance to Granada (Andalusia, Spain). It was located at the corner of Plaza de Bib-Rambla and Calle Salamanca.

The bridge’s construction began in the 11th century. By the 19th century, it had already become the subject of several major controversies.

Parts of the gate still remain standing to this day. In 1935, Torres Balbás used the remains of the Gate of the Ears, without its vaults, to create an arch in the Forest of the Alhambra. This and a small gate at the beginning of Bib-Rambla are the only vestiges of its former glory.

One popular theory suggests that the Gate of the Ears was named after the tradition involving the hanging of ears and other body parts of executed criminals. Another theory says that during the reign of Philip IV of Spain, a tablao, which carrying too many people sank. According to the theory, the ears of the women who died were mutilated by people in an effort to cut the earrings out. It is difficult to verify either of these legends.
