Random information on the term “TRUST”:

A signalman or signaller is an employee of a railway transport network who operates the points and signals from a signal box in order to control the movement of trains.

The first signalmen, originally called Railway Policemen (leading to the nickname of ‘Bobby’), were employed in the early 19th century and used flags to communicate with each other and train drivers, and hourglasses for the purpose of Time Interval Working between stations.

It was a signalman’s duty to check each train that passed his signal box, looking for the red tail lamp exhibited on the trailing vehicle, the sighting of which confirmed that the train was still complete, and thus the section was clear.

Each train movement was logged, by hand, in a Train Register Book, and it was normal practice to provide a special desk to support this sizeable book. As well as train movements, every communication between signalmen and adjacent signal boxes via bell codes (when accepting trains or dealing with a token) was logged.

Random information on the term “MIND”:

MIND High School (Moving In New Directions; French: École secondaire MIND) (est. 1975) is an alternative education high school in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its reputation stems from its community-based programs.

MIND is a partnership between the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) and McGill University’s Faculty of Education. The program focuses on providing critical thinking and enriched education through alternative teaching methods.

Founded in 1975 with 125 students from the entire PSBGM (Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal) and 7 staff, MIND was originally known simply as “The Alternative High School” and was located primarily on the third floor (with a few classes on the second floor) of the International YMCA at the corner of Parc Avenue and St. Viateur.

A vote was held by the community (students, staff and parents/guardians each had one vote), and “MIND” (Moving In New Directions) was declared the new name of the school. Early community votes dealt with use a recreational drugs at school (rejected), smoking during class (eventually banned on the third floor only), world poverty and debt (no resolution) and student apathy (a surprisingly large meeting with no real solution). Community meetings were held weekly and home group meetings were held every Monday morning.
