Oslo is a multiple award-winning play by J. T. Rogers, which recounts (in dramatized, partially fictional form) the true-life, previously secret, back-channel negotiations in the development of the pivotal 1990s Oslo Peace Accords between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The play premiered Off-Broadway in June 2016 and then transferred to Broadway in April 2017.

In May 2017, Oslo won the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play, the 2017 Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, and 2017 Obie Awards for Best New American Theater Work and an Ensemble Award (awarded to the entire Off-Broadway Cast).

Oslo has also been nominated for seven 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Play, as well as two 2017 Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Play.

Oslo concerns the true story of the efforts of Mona Juul and her husband, Terje Rød-Larsen, who are diplomats from Norway, and who organized breakthrough negotiations between Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat in 1993.

Random information on the term “KIEV”:

KIEV was a radio station call sign associated with a construction permit for 1500 AM in Culver City, California serving the Los Angeles area. The construction permit is held by Royce International Broadcasting and was issued on March 27, 2001. The station is not currently on the air. A Travelers’ Information Station licensed to the City of Beverly Hills operates on 1500 AM.

During the week of Memorial Day 2008, KIEV sent out test signals to measure the strength of its signal. During that time, it aired a syndicated talk show hosted by Tammy Bruce and simulcast Monica Crowley’s show from “77 WABC” in New York City. KIEV also aired some news updates from USA Radio Network. But the test ended shortly after the holiday, and whether the station will return to the air and with what format is not yet known. (Crowley’s show has been sold locally to KGIL.) The current KIEV should not be confused with the previous station possessing the KIEV call letters. Both stations are separate entities.

Random information on the term “ATHENS”:

OpenAthens is an identity and access management service, supplied by Eduserv, a not-for-profit information technology services company based in the United Kingdom. Identity provider (IdP) organisations can keep usernames in the cloud, locally or both. Integration with ADFS, LDAP or SAML is supported. OpenAthens for Publishers (SP) software for Service Providers supports multiple platforms and federations.

With its origins in a University of Bath initiative to reduce IT procurement costs for itself and other universities, the Athens project was conceived in 1996. Spun off from Bath University through the vehicle of charitable status, Eduserv was established as a not-for-profit organisation in 1999.

The service was originally named Athena after the Greek goddess of knowledge and learning; it is rumoured that the name change was partially caused by a common typo, but it was actually due to the name Athena being already trademarked (EU000204735). It launched as ‘Athens’ in 1997 (UK00002153200); the name changed to ‘OpenAthens’ in 2007 and was renewed as such in 2015 (EU013713821).

Random information on the term “SOFIA”:

The Gerard P. Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO) was a national facility operated by NASA to support research in infrared astronomy. The observation platform was a highly modified Lockheed C-141A Starlifter jet transport aircraft (s/n: 6110, registration: N714NA, callsign: NASA 714) with a range of 6,000 nautical miles (11,000 km), capable of conducting research operations at altitudes of up to 48,000 feet (14 km).

The KAO was based at the Ames Research Center, NAS Moffett Field, in Sunnyvale, California. It began operation in 1974 as a replacement for an earlier aircraft, the Galileo Observatory, a converted Convair 990 (N711NA), that was destroyed in a collision with a U.S. Navy Lockheed P-3C Orion patrol aircraft in 1973.

The KAO’s telescope was a conventional Cassegrain reflector with a 36-inch (91.5 cm) aperture, designed primarily for observations in the 1 to 500 μm spectral range. Its flight capability allowed it to rise above almost all of the water vapor in the Earth’s atmosphere (allowing observations of infrared radiation, which is blocked before reaching ground-based facilities), as well as travel to almost any point on the Earth’s surface for an observation.
