Random information on the term “NIL”:

0 (zero; BrE: /ˈzɪərəʊ/ or AmE: /ˈziːroʊ/) is both a number and the numerical digit used to represent that number in numerals. The number 0 fulfills a central role in mathematics as the additive identity of the integers, real numbers, and many other algebraic structures. As a digit, 0 is used as a placeholder in place value systems. Names for the number 0 in English include zero, nought or (US) naught (/ˈnɔːt/), nil, or—in contexts where at least one adjacent digit distinguishes it from the letter “O”—oh or o (/ˈoʊ/). Informal or slang terms for zero include zilch and zip. Ought and aught (/ˈɔːt/), as well as cipher, have also been used historically.

The word zero came into the English language via French zéro from Italian zero, Italian contraction of Venetian zevero form of ‘Italian zefiro via ṣafira or ṣifr. In pre-Islamic time the word ṣifr (Arabic صفر) had the meaning ’empty’. Sifr evolved to mean zero when it was used to translate śūnya (Sanskrit: शून्य) from India. The first known English use of zero was in 1598.

Random information on the term “MAR”:

West Syriac: Mor (as pronounced respectively in eastern and western dialects, from Syriac: ܡܪܝ‎ or East Syriac: Mar, Mār(y), written with a silent final yodh) is a title of respect in Syriac, literally meaning ‘my lord’. It is given to all saints and is also used before Christian name of bishops. The corresponding feminine form given to women saints is Mart or Mort (Syriac: ܡܪܬܝ‎, Mārt(y)). The title is placed before the Christian name, as in Mar Aprem/Mor Afrem and Mart/Mort Maryam.

The variant Maran or Moran (Syriac: ܡܪܢ‎, Māran), meaning “Our Lord”, is a particular title given to Jesus, either alone or in combination with other names and titles. Likewise, Martan or Mortan (Syriac: ܡܪܬܢ‎, Mārtan, “Our Lady”) is a title of Mary.

Occasionally, the term Maran or Moran has been used of various patriarchs and catholicoi. The Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, the Malankara Orthodox Catholicos and the Syro-Malankara Major Archbishop Catholicos use the title Moran Mor. Sometimes the Indian bearers of this title are called Moran Mar, using a hybrid style from both Syriac dialects that reflects somewhat the history of Syrian Christians in Kerala. The Pope of Rome is referred to as Mar Papa by the Nasrani Saint Thomas Christians of India.

Random information on the term “RASP”:

Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) is an 8-week course held at Fort Benning, Georgia. RASP is required for all ranks. As of 2010, RASP replaced both the RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program) for enlisted Soldiers and ROP (Ranger Orientation Program) for Officers, both commissioned and noncommissioned and below to be assigned to the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment.

RASP is designed to prepare soldiers, many of whom have just graduated Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, and Airborne School and are still considered “fresh” recruits, for assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment. Airborne qualified soldiers from other units attempting to transfer to the 75th Ranger Regiment also attend the course, but are less common than new soldiers.

Follow on courses dependent upon MOS such as SOCM and other “specialty upgrade” training is also required by certain MOSs attending RASP. Those who are obligated for these follow-on courses also are in jeopardy of losing all affiliation with the Ranger regiment if said personnel fail to complete their follow-on training. These trainees will be realigned to another unit, most often an airborne unit.

Random information on the term “CLAW”:

Earth science or geoscience is a widely embraced term for the fields of science related to the planet Earth. Earth science can be considered to be a branch of planetary science, but with a much older history. There are both reductionist and holistic approaches to Earth sciences. The Earth sciences can include the study of geology, the lithosphere, and the large-scale structure of the Earth’s interior, as well as the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. Typically, Earth scientists use tools from geography, chronology, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics to build a quantitative understanding of how the Earth works and evolves.

The following fields of science are generally categorized within the Earth sciences:

Plate tectonics, mountain ranges, volcanoes, and earthquakes are geological phenomena that can be explained in terms of physical and chemical processes in the Earth’s crust.

Beneath the Earth’s crust lies the mantle which is heated by the radioactive decay of heavy elements. The mantle is not quite solid and consists of magma which is in a state of semi-perpetual convection. This convection process causes the lithospheric plates to move, albeit slowly. The resulting process is known as plate tectonics.

Random information on the term “KALE”:

KTCV (88.1 FM) is a high school radio station broadcasting an Alternative music music format. Licensed to Kennewick, Washington, United States, the radio station is currently owned by the Kennewick School District. It broadcasts from the Tri-Tech Skills Center in Kennewick, by students as part of extra classes taken by Juniors and Seniors from high schools in the Tri-City area.

Originally supervised by Marv Carstens, the station’s early years included great friction with some elements of the community over the all heavy metal format. The station was shut down for a time due to complaints from Evangelicals. It was reborn in the late 1980s as a billboard top 40 station. Broadcast hours were severely curtailed during this time frame; sign off was at 5:00pm. The Top 40 format was never embraced within the station and did not succeed. The early 1990s brought a first for the Tri-Cities: a classic rock format. The station shifted away from the unpopular top 40 format and during class hours ran the classic rock format. After class hours, students ran special programs from 3:00pm to 5:00pm sign off. Also during this time, as a test, Tri-Tech’s administration loosened up on the station and allowed Friday night KTCV to broadcast until 10:00pm.

Random information on the term “DELETE”:

File deletion is a way of removing a file from a computer’s file system.

Examples of reasons for deleting files are:

All operating systems include commands for deleting files (rm on Unix, era in CP/M and DR-DOS, del/erase in MS-DOS/PC DOS, DR-DOS, Microsoft Windows etc.). File managers also provide a convenient way of deleting files. Files may be deleted one-by-one, or a whole directory tree may be deleted.

The common problem with deleting files is accidental removal of information that later proves to be important. One way to deal with this is to back up files regularly. Erroneously deleted files may then be found in archives.

Another technique often used is not to delete files instantly, but to move them to a temporary directory whose contents can then be deleted at will. This is how the “recycle bin” or “trash can” works. Microsoft Windows and Apple’s Mac OS X, as well as some Linux distributions, all employ this strategy.

In MS-DOS, one can use the undelete command. In MS-DOS the “deleted” files are not really deleted, but only marked as deleted—so they could be undeleted during some time, until the disk blocks they used are eventually taken up by other files. This is how data recovery programs work, by scanning for files that have been marked as deleted. As the space is freed up per byte, rather than per file, this can sometimes cause data to be recovered incompletely. Defragging a drive may prevent undeletion, as the blocks used by deleted file might be overwritten since they are marked as “empty”.

Random information on the term “NICK”:

Nick Abbot (born 22 August 1960) is an English radio presenter who currently presents the late-night show on Friday and Saturday on LBC.

Nick Abbot was born on 22 August 1960, and was educated at George Heriot’s School, an independent school for boys in Edinburgh, and at Brunel University in Uxbridge in West London, where he gained an upper-second class degree in psychology. His professional career began as a Virgin Megastore DJ. He had previously presented student radio at Brunel University’s radio station, Radio Brunel.

In early 1987, he joined Radio Luxembourg to present an overnight music show. After hearing American talk show presenter Neil Rogers Abbot was inspired and the show instead became a phone in. Eventually a ‘straight to air’ format was settled upon, where calls would be taken unscreened. This format quickly became a hit with listeners. The absence of a delay system to ‘dump’ offensive language resulted in callers saying swear words just before they were cut off. It is believed that Abbot was one of the first (if not the first) to take calls straight to air, and later LBC colleague Iain Lee has often confessed that he stole some of his act from Nick (as well as Clive Bull and Tommy Boyd), perhaps hinting he got the inspiration for his “Triple M” show from Nick Abbot in addition to Boyd’s “Human Zoo” show.
